Our Youth Development Division is working hard to facilitate programs that prepare young people to improve their health and fitness and to become good citizens through character development programs. For families with school age children, check out our nationally recognized After School Programs.  If you’re looking for summer activities for your children, our Summer Day Camps or Summer Playground Program may be a good fit.  We also offer specialty camps and instructional classes for youth and adults at Woodruff Leisure Center, T.W. Edwards Recreation Center, Middle Tyger Recreation Center, and Inman Recreation Center.

Adults can learn to Shag, Square Dance, learn piano, take karate or self defense, or stay active through our fitness classes.  Check out the facility nearest you!  We’re just getting started planning a 50+ program for active adults age 50 and over.  We’ll offer a well-rounded program of fitness, adventure, social and educational activities, travel, and lots of fun!  Our first ongoing 50+ program is SilverSneakers. Check it out!

If you’re looking for adventure, or want to get acquainted with the great outdoors, try our new LEAF programs!  We’ve recently invested in the creation of a full time position to coordinate Outdoor Recreation programs, and lots of gear to get you started!  We’ve got workshops for kids and adults, summer adventure camps, and special events on the schedule.

Speaking of Special Events, we’ve got you covered!  On schedule for June 2008 is the Spartanburg Soap Box Derby!  Spark your interest in Parks as we celebrate Recreation and Parks month in July with weekly events and a calendar of fun ideas for every day of the week! More events are in the works for the Fall season, so check back with us often to see what’s new!
