Staff Development |
|
SCPRC carefully selects and screens every AYC staff member prior to them being hired. Each candidate must undergo a SLED Background check, Sex Offenders Registry is also checked, a drug screen, and an interview process that requires each candidate to provide personal references, school & work history information. SCPRC recruits heavily from local colleges and universities in order to hire the most educated and competent staff that will work in the program. Once an individual has been hired they must undergo an initial training period where they shadow lead counselors & are trained under direct supervision.
Each staff member must also complete online training: National Youth Leadership Training. There are also several Red Cross classes that staff must take in order to stay current in Red Cross First Aid & CPR certification. Throughout the year SCPRC also provides several mandatory staff training sessions that include safety training, behavior modification of children, program development, and fun ideas for new games & crafts. The 2008 Summer Training that took place at Cleveland Park Event Center featured Dr. Ed Gosnell an Education Professor at Converse College, Derrick Wilder of Playball, and Theresa Tucker from Clemson University Department of Parks & Tourism. The fall session will be taught by Sarah Dubose and will be a "Train the Trainer" session that teaches about using safety prevention curriculum successfully in a after school setting. SCPRC takes staff development seriously because the more trained we are the better we can serve your family.
